Summary
The Proxicam Pedestrian Detection System utilizes specialized printed Aruco codes (Site Markers) to transform passive site infrastructure into intelligent safety warnings. By recognizing these strategically placed markers, the AI camera can dynamically issue contextual audible alerts to machine operators or actively suppress pedestrian detection alarms in designated safe zones.
Features and Functions
Hazard and Infrastructure Markers
The NPU edge-computing algorithms can read specific Aruco markers to generate immediate visual and spoken notifications, enhancing situational awareness regarding environmental hazards.
- Object Marker (ID:0):
Triggers the spoken alert "Attention! Object" (English) or "¡Atención! Obstáculo" (Spanish). This marker must be mounted between 0.5m - 1.0m from the ground and is exclusively detected when breached within the system's Red Zone. - Low Height Marker (ID:1):
Triggers the spoken alert "Attention! Low Height" (English) or "¡Atención! altura restringida" (Spanish). It can be mounted at any height and is detected anywhere within the camera's field of view. - Hazard Marker (ID:2):
Triggers the spoken alert "Caution! Hazard Ahead" (English) or "¡Precaución! Peligro adelante" (Spanish). It can be mounted anywhere and is detected anywhere within the camera's field of view. - Speed Markers (ID:3 & ID:4):
[TBD: Specific speed limitation functionalities and integration details are currently in development].
Exemption Marker (ID:5)
Designed to dynamically exempt the detection of authorized personnel in safe areas without compromising overall machine safety.
- Active Suppression: If the camera classifies a pedestrian and an Exemption Marker at the same time and in the same zone (e.g., a person standing safely behind a wire fence equipped with the marker), the pedestrian alarm is actively suppressed.
- Monitor Feedback: When suppression is active, the connected LCD monitor outlines the pedestrian in a Blue bounding box labeled "Safe", while the marker is outlined in a Blue bounding box labeled "ID: 5". No audible alert tone or physical output trigger is generated, and no DV-Hub events are logged.
- Mounting Requirements: The ID:5 Exemption marker must be mounted between 0.5m - 1.0m from the ground and can be classified within any of the configured detection zones (Green, Yellow, or Red).
Configuration and Setup
Hazard marker alerts and output triggers are customized using the web-based Proxicam Configuration App.
- Connect to the Proxicam WiFi network using the USBCAL dongle and launch the Configuration App in your web browser.
- Navigate to the Alerts & Triggers menu.
- Locate the Hazard Marker section.
- Use the toggle switches to set specific markers to ON. This will enable the audible/visual alerts on the LCD Monitor/Detection Indicator and activate the system's output triggers.
- Set the Alert Language dropdown to your preferred spoken language (English, Spanish, or None).
- Note: The Exemption Marker (ID:5) requires no software configuration or UI toggling; the suppression logic is always active by default.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Why did the camera fail to issue an alert when I approached an Object Marker (ID:0)?
Verify the physical placement of the marker. The ID:0 Object Marker must be mounted precisely between 0.5m and 1m from the ground. Furthermore, unlike the Low Height or Hazard markers, the Object Marker will only trigger an alert if it is breached specifically within the calibrated Red Zone.
A pedestrian was standing near an Exemption Marker (ID:5), but the alarm still sounded and triggered the system.
For the automated suppression logic to apply, the pedestrian and the Exemption Marker must be classified by the camera at the exact same time and be located in the same detection zone. Ensure the printed Aruco marker is not obscured by dirt, is clearly visible to the camera lens, and is mounted at the correct height of 0.5m - 1.0m.
