Video & Event Data Capture

Summary

The Proxicam Pedestrian Detection System utilizes the ruggedised DV-Hub data logger to provide comprehensive video and event data capture capabilities. By actively recording both continuous machine operations and critical proximity events, the system delivers high-definition video and actionable telemetry to assist safety managers with incident reviews, site audits, and training.

Features and Functions

Event-Based Video Logging

When a pedestrian breaches a configured detection zone, the DV-Hub automatically logs a detection event.

  • Synchronized Capture:
Captures a 10-second high-definition video clip aggregating all four camera channels (Left, Right, Front, Rear) irrespective of which specific camera triggered the event.
  • Asset Telemetry:
Logs vital telemetry data alongside the video, including the Asset ID, precise GPS location, machine speed, heading, and a UTC 0 timestamp.
  • Cloud Integration:
If the DV-Hub is connected to the internet via WiFi or 4G LTE, event data and video snippets are automatically pushed to the Proxicam Cloud Server and FleetHQ platform for remote access and reporting.
  • Storage Efficiency:
Event video files are highly compressed, averaging 2.5Mb per 10-second interval for each camera, and stored on the SSD drive for local offline playback and as an offline cache in the event that an online device is out of WiFi or 4G LTE range.

Continuous HD Recording

The system operates as a constant surveillance DVR, recording high-definition video from all connected Proxicam cameras.

  • Segmented Files:
Footage is saved in organized 5-minute segments.
  • Looping Overwrite:
Utilizes a First-In, First-Out (FIFO) looping mechanism, automatically erasing the oldest files to make space for new recordings when the internal drive reaches capacity.
  • Offline Access Only:
Continuous recordings do not include machine telemetry and are not uploaded to the cloud. The files average 64.5Mb per 5-minute interval per camera and must be accessed locally. Event videos are also always stored locally on the SSD drive for offline playback.

Secure Edge Storage

  • High Capacity:
Data is recorded locally on a removable 2.5” Solid State Drive (SSD) supporting a maximum capacity of 2TB.
  • Tamper-Proof Design:
The SSD is housed within the DV-Hub behind a lockable door (supplied with two keys) to ensure data integrity and prevent unauthorized physical access to the footage.

Standardized File Formatting

  • Video Codecs:
Exported MP4 files retain a resolution of 1280x720 pixels at 25fps utilizing the H.264 compression codec.
  • Automated Naming Convention:
Videos exported from the DV-Player app are automatically tagged with metadata for efficient archival, formatted as: Timestamp_AssetID_VideoCategory_VideoChannel.

Installation and Usage: Data Retrieval

  1. Local Retrieval:
Power down the DV-Hub and use the supplied key to unlock the front drive bay. Lift the latch and pull the SSD straight out, then connect it to a Windows 10/11 PC using a standard SATA-to-USB adapter.
  2. Offline Playback:
Launch the DV-Player.exe portable application directly from the root directory of the SSD to automatically scan and index the video files. After the scan completes the video list should be populated with all available continuous and event video recordings. To search for videos from a specific date, in the calendar interface select a start and end date, click Search Videos to list results for the selected date range.
  3. Export Evidence:
Select a video from the list or pause the current video and click the Export dropdown menu to save individual camera views or a synchronized **All Cameras (2x2 Grid)** MP4 file to your local computer.
  4. Cloud Retrieval:
For internet-connected systems, log into the FleetHQ web portal from any standard browser. Navigate to the Dashboards or Reports menus to review automatically uploaded proximity event videos and corresponding GPS event locations.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Why are my continuous video recordings not appearing on the FleetHQ cloud portal?
Continuous video recordings are strictly stored locally on the DV-Hub's internal SSD and are not uploaded to the Proxicam Cloud Server. Only 10-second event-based recordings are pushed to the cloud. To view continuous footage, you must physically remove the SSD and connect it to a PC using the DV-Player app.

I connected the SSD to my PC, but the DV-Player shows no files, and the drive appears empty.
This can occur if the SSD was not successfully formatted during initial setup, or if the device configuration was changed using the DV-Config app. When a new configuration is applied, the DV-Hub may format the SSD, which permanently erases any historical video data stored on the drive.
The SD card should always remain installed in the device during normal operation.
If you need to change the device configuration but do not want the SSD to be formatted, temporarily remove the SSD before applying the configuration. Boot the device with only the SD card inserted so the new configuration can be applied. Once the device has rebooted successfully, shut the device down, then reinstall the SSD.
