Pedestrian Alerts

Summary

The Proxicam Pedestrian Detection System actively warns personnel of their proximity to heavy machinery using high-intensity external alerts and spoken voice notifications. Through flexible hardware output triggers, the system can also seamlessly integrate with third-party safety devices, such as external sirens, beacons, and automated gates, ensuring comprehensive site-wide safety compliance.

Features and Functions

External Pedestrian Alert Module (PXALERT)

The Proxicam Pedestrian Alert Module (SKU: PXALERT-ENG / PXALERT-ESP) is an outward-facing warning device designed to directly notify pedestrians when they breach an active machine's exclusion zone.

  • Audio-Visual Warning:
It captures visual attention using a bright 240lm flashing yellow LED strobe, paired with a commanding 103dB spoken voice notification emitted from a built-in 5W speaker.
  • Language Options:
Available with either English or Spanish voice profiles.
  • Environmental Durability:
Housed in a compact module measuring 100 x 100 x 45mm, it achieves an IP68 waterproof rating and is engineered to operate reliably in extreme temperatures ranging from -30°C to +80°C.

Output Triggers for Third-Party Hardware

The Proxicam system provides versatile I/O trigger options to activate external hardware or interface with machine control circuits upon a detection event. The connection methodology depends on the installed system configuration:

  • Standalone or PXLED Installations:
When utilizing the 8-Pin power harness (8PT) or the 4-Pin accessory harness (4PT), the Alarm-Out wire goes High (9.5V - 13V DC) during a detection event. The maximum current draw is limited to 450mA. Note: A 12V switching relay may be required when triggering heavy-draw third-party devices.
  • LCD Monitor (PXLCD) Installations:
The standard trigger outputs directly from the Proxicam Monitor are very low-current signals. To successfully interface with external hardware or circuits, the Proxicam Trigger Adaptor (SKU: PXTG) must be installed to provide a regulated 500mA, 11V DC output.
  • Data and Video Logger (DV-HUB) Installations:
The DV-Hub main harness includes a dedicated Trigger Output Wire that delivers a positive 12V+ (500mA) trigger whenever a pedestrian is detected.
  • Enhancement Box (PXE) Installations:
For advanced setups, the PXE module supplies four individual high-level output triggers corresponding directly to each connected camera (Left, Right, Front, Rear), allowing for highly directional third-party alerting.

Configuring Alerts and Triggers

All physical output triggers and external alerts are customized using the web-based Proxicam Configuration App via the USBCAL WiFi dongle.

  1. Navigate to the Alerts & Triggers menu.
  2. Zone Toggles: Use the switches to independently enable or disable the output trigger for the Green Zone, Yellow Zone, and Red Zone. When a zone is set to ON, any detection within that zone will activate the PXALERT module or the designated third-party hardware.
  3. Trigger Duration: Set the minimum length of time (in milliseconds) that the output signal remains active during a detection event. The system default is set to 200ms.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

My third-party beacon is not activating when a person walks into the detection zone.
First, verify via the Configuration App that the specific zone (Green, Yellow, or Red) has its output trigger actively toggled to ON under the Alerts & Triggers menu. If enabled, check the current draw of your external beacon. The Alarm-Out wire has a maximum current limit of 450mA to 500mA depending on the hardware. If your device exceeds this limit, you must wire a 12V switching relay into the circuit to safely trigger the hardware.

I have connected my external siren to the LCD Monitor’s trigger wires, but it is not sounding.
The raw trigger outputs from the Proxicam LCD Monitor deliver a very low current signal that cannot independently drive external hardware. You must install the Proxicam Enhancement Box (SKU: PXE) in-line, which will step up the output to deliver a functional 500mA at 11V DC to your siren.

I have connected my external siren to the Output wires / PXALERT to the DV-Hub, but it is not sounding.
The DV-Hub Output 1 (green) wire receives 12V whenever a detection occurs and coincides with the trigger output of the PX-LED 4-pin connector.

The DV-Hub Output 2 (green/white) wire receives 12V whenever a detection occurs and is used for more situational alerts and triggering such as machine slowdown mechanism, depending on the input of the Forward/Mute (blue/white) and the AUX/Reverse (grey) wire.

Remove the SD Card and use the DV-Config App to check which MODE the DV-Hub has been configured to. Depending on the selected MODE, the input conditions must be met for either of the outputs to be active.

I have connected the PXALERT to the PXE  and LCD Monitor Kit, but it is not sounding.

Check that the dip-switches on the Proxicam Enhancement box (PXE) are set correctly for the required MODE and the the input conditions for the configured MODE are met.

I have connected the PXALERT to the Proxicam LED Kit (no monitor kit), but it is not sounding.

Check that the Alarm-In (Blue) wire has power supplied to it, this is a conditional wire that controls when the alert is able to receive a detection trigger from the camera(s).
