Proxicam AI Camera PXCAM-EVO

The Proxicam™ AI Camera (PXCAM-EVO) is a rugged, edge-computing pedestrian detection camera engineered to distinguish and track people and objects in complex industrial environments.
No active internet connection required as it processes image and object recognition locally on the device
Using advanced AI image recognition algorithms it is able to operate without requiring RFID tags or high-visibility vests.

Features and Functions

At-the-Edge AI Object Recognition

The PXCAM-EVO processes high-definition video data directly within the camera hardware, eliminating the need for external processing units. The system's neural networks are trained to distinguish the human form in any pose—including partially obstructed bodies and extremities—with a 99.8% detection accuracy. This high precision reduces false positives, mitigating operator alert fatigue. The camera maintains detection capability in low-light conditions and darkness.

  • Identifies the human form with 99.8% accuracy
  • Detects partially-exposed limbs
  • Ignores irrelevant environmental objects
  • Detection-to-alert latency - 130ms

Optics and Coverage Area

Equipped with a 1.99mm focal length fisheye lens, the camera provides an ultra-wide 170° viewing angle.

  • Detection Range:
    < 20m.  Optimum detection 0.5m - 10m from the camera face.
  • Lens Correction:
The Remove Fisheye Effect feature within the configuration software processes the image to remove optical warping. Active by default.
  • Image Orientation:
The Mirror Camera Image and Flip Camera Image toggles correct the feed orientation for horizontally or vertically inverted mounting.

Diagnostic LED Indicators

The front-facing LEDs provide an immediate visual indication of the system's operational health, facilitating pre-start compliance checks.

Customisable Detection Zones

Safety zones can be tailored to the specific geometry and kinematics of the machine, the environment and traffic management policies.

Up to three distinct zones can be configured (Green, Yellow, and Red)

  • Zone Shapes:
Selectable patterns include Horizontal (rectangular or trapezoid), Semi-circle, and Vertical corridors.
  • Free-Form Zones:
By enabling the Drag Freely toggle, installers can manually manipulate the on-screen bounding lines to map irregular hazard areas.

To configure zones, install the USBCAL WiFi Dongle to the camera and connect your phone or laptop to the Camera Configuration App, hosted within the camera.

Site Marker Identification

The PXCAM-EVO reads pre-defined Aruco codes called Site Markers to provide environmental notifications to the operator.

  • Object Marker:  (ID:00)
Triggers spoken and visual alerts when detected within any of the Detection Zones (Red/Yellow/Green).
    English - “Attention! Object.”
    Spanish - “¡Atención! Obstáculo”

  • Low Height Markers:  (ID:01)
Triggers spoken and visual alert when detected anywhere in the camera's field of view.
    English - "Attention! Low Height"
    Spanish - "¡Atención! Altura Baja"

  • Hazard Marker:  (ID:02)
Triggers spoken and visual alert when detected anywhere in the camera's field of view.
    English - “Caution! Hazard Ahead”
    Spanish - “¡Precaución! Peligro adelante”

  • Exemption Markers:  (ID:05):
Dynamically suppresses pedestrian detection events if a pedestrian and the exemption marker are identified simultaneously within the same zone (e.g., personnel standing safely behind a designated wire fence).

Poor Visibility Alert

The camera constantly monitors the integrity of the captured image to ensure it is not blocked or obscured by mud, snow, dirt etc.

  • Checks for total blockage or partial vision degradation
  • Issues a spoken audible alert on the LCD Monitor
    • English - "Poor Visibility. Check Camera"
    • Spanish - ""Poca visibilidad. Verifica la cámara."
  • Activates the LED or Output trigger (Active by Default)
  • Configured using the Proxicam Camera Configuration App

Trigger Outputs and Peripheral Integration

The camera generates conditional output triggers upon detection events or site marker notification. These triggers integrate directly with the Proxicam Detection Indicator (PXLED), External Pedestrian Alert (PXALERT) or external beacons, sirens, and telemetry circuits.

  • When used as a standalone system or with the PXLED Detection Indicator,, the Proxicam Voltage Converter & I/O Controller (PXVC) MUST be installed in-line to regulate the camera voltage (up to 48V DC) and manage I/O switching.
  • When used with the LCD Monitor, the Enhancement Box (PXE) must be used to enable input / output triggers

Troubleshooting & FAQ

What do I do if the Camera Status LED displays a constant Red light?

A constant red LED indicates a system error or an AI failure. Verify that all 8-PIN DIN cables are securely connected. Check the camera lens for obstructions, heavy dirt, or mud, which may trigger the built-in tamper/poor visibility alert. If the error remains after cleaning the lens and power-cycling the machine, the unit may require technical support.

Why can't I connect to the Camera Configuration App during installation?

Ensure the USBCAL WiFi Dongle is temporarily installed in-line and the machine is powered on. Verify your device is connected to the correct camera. For Android devices, disable any advanced settings that automatically switch to mobile data if not internet access is available. For Apple iOS devices, ensure "WiFi Assist" is disabled.

Does the camera need to be reconfigured if I physically move it?

Yes. If a Proxicam camera is physically relocated, tilted, or shifted, the detection zones must be reconfigured and recalibrated via the Configuration App to ensure the on-screen digital boundaries align accurately with the physical hazard areas on the ground.
