Installing the LCD Monitor

Summary

The Proxicam LCD Monitor (PXLCD) is a ruggedised, 7-inch in-cabin display that provides machine operators with a real-time, 360-degree view from up to four connected AI cameras. This guide outlines the physical mounting procedures, electrical connections, and initial on-screen menu configuration using the system's Quick Setup interface.

Hardware Specifications

  • Operating Voltage: 10V - 32V DC.
  • Power Consumption: Max 25W.
  • Display Layouts: Single, split, triple, or quad views.
  • Waterproof Rating: IP66.
  • Mounting Options: U-Bracket (flat surfaces) or Ball Joint Bracket (poles/frames).

Hardware Installation Steps

  1. Position the Monitor: Install the PXLCD display in the direct line-of-sight of the machine operator, ensuring it can be easily seen and heard without obstructing their operational view. Secure it using the supplied U-Bracket or the optional Ball Joint Bracket via the rear T-slot.
  2. Route the Harnesses: Run the camera extension harnesses (available in 1m, 3m, or 5m lengths) from the externally mounted Proxicam cameras into the machine cabin. Connect these to the corresponding 8-PIN DIN screw-lock camera inputs on the monitor's 27-PIN main cable.
  3. Connect Power: Wire the monitor to the machine's power supply. Connect the ACC 10V-32V wire to an ignition-switched positive power source, ensuring a 5A inline fuse is installed. Securely attach the GND wire to the machine's chassis ground.
  4. Connect External Triggers (Optional): If you require the monitor to automatically display the rear camera when reversing, connect the Reverse Trigger Input wire to the machine's 12V/24V positive reverse signal.

Menu Configuration and Quick Setup

The PXLCD monitor features a Quick Setup menu designed to automatically configure the display layout and alert settings based on the number of connected cameras.

  1. Unlock the Monitor: Power up the machine. To prevent unauthorized tampering, the monitor screen is locked by default. Press and hold the Menu/Lock button on the front bezel for 5 seconds to enable the on-screen keyboard. Enter the 8-character alpha-numeric password to unlock the display. (Note: The password is printed on the flap inside the monitor's original packaging).
  2. Access Quick Setup: Press the Menu button on the bezel, then select the Quick Setup icon from the on-screen interface.
  3. Assign Connected Cameras: In the menu, select the checkboxes corresponding to the specific cameras and locations (Left, Right, Front, Rear) you have physically connected.
  4. Define Screen Mode: Choose your preferred default display layout (e.g., single, split, or quad view). Alternatively, select Standby Mode to keep the screen blank to reduce distraction; it will only activate during a pedestrian detection event or when triggered by the reverse gear.
  5. Adjust Lighting Preferences: Toggle Auto Dimming to YES to allow the ambient light sensor to adjust screen brightness automatically. Set the maximum Brightness level for daytime operation.
  6. Lock and Finalize: Exit the menu. The monitor will automatically lock itself after 30 seconds of inactivity to secure your settings. To lock it manually immediately, press and hold the Menu/Lock button for 5 seconds until the lock icon appears on the screen.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

I cannot access the menu; the screen shows a lock icon and no buttons respond.
The PXLCD is password-protected to prevent unauthorized operators from altering safety parameters or volume levels. You must press and hold the Menu/Lock button for 5 seconds to prompt the password entry screen. If you do not have the password, check the flap inside the monitor's original packaging or contact your safety administrator.

The monitor screen is completely black when the machine is running.
The monitor may be configured to Stand-By mode. In this mode, the display remains blank to minimize cabin distraction and will only turn on during a pedestrian detection event or when a hard-wired reverse trigger is activated. You can adjust this by unlocking the screen and changing the Screen Mode settings in the Quick Setup menu.
