Proxicam AI Camera PXCAM-EVO

Summary

The Proxicam AI Camera (SKU: PXCAM-EVO) is a ruggedised, edge-computing pedestrian detection sensor designed to actively monitor exclusion zones around industrial machinery. Utilizing advanced computer vision and Human Form Recognition (HFR), it reliably tracks personnel without the need for wearable RFID tags, delivering critical proximity alerts to machine operators in real-time.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

1. Do pedestrians need to wear RFID tags or high-visibility vests to be detected?
No. The system uses Human Form Recognition (HFR) algorithms trained on physical morphology, meaning it operates entirely without the need for RFID tags, transponders, or specific PPE.

2. What is the optimum detection distance?
While the AI can classify humans up to 20m away, the camera is calibrated for an optimal detection range of between 0.5m and 10m from the lens, and up to 8m wide across the camera's face.

3. How wide is the camera's field of view?
The PXCAM-EVO is equipped with a 1.99mm fisheye lens, which provides an ultra-wide 170º viewing angle to minimize peripheral blind spots.

4. Does the camera require an internet connection to detect pedestrians?
No. The camera features "at-the-edge" computing, meaning the Neural Processing Unit is embedded directly into the hardware. It processes the high-definition video locally with zero network connectivity required.

5. Can the camera detect a person if they are partially hidden?
Yes. The deep learning algorithms are trained to reliably identify human extremities, limbs, and partially obstructed bodies, such as a worker crouching or carrying a large box.

6. How quickly does the camera process a detection event?
Because the image processing happens locally on the camera hardware, the system's detection and alert latency is reduced to just ±130ms.

7. Will the camera operate in the dark or in bad weather?
The camera operates effectively in low light conditions, though some ambient light is recommended. However, the NPU feature-matching may fail in extremely heavy snow, dense fog, or if the lens is completely obscured by mud or dust.

8. How do I know if the camera is actively detecting?
Check the status LEDs on the front face of the camera. A constant Blue LED indicates the system is active, healthy, and functioning normally. A constant Red LED indicates a system error.

9. What do the flashing LEDs mean when I first turn the machine on?
During start-up, the camera performs a boot-up sequence. It will display alternating Red & Yellow lights 4 times to indicate it is "Initialising", followed by Blue lights 3 times to indicate it is "Ready".

10. What should I do if the camera displays a constant red LED?
A constant Red LED indicates a system error has occurred. [TBD: Missing Info - Specific error code resolutions]. Power cycle the machine and contact technical support if the issue persists.

11. Can I mount the camera upside down?
No, the physical camera MUST be mounted upright, aligned with the UP arrow on the housing. However, if the image needs correction for rear-facing installations, you can invert it using the Mirror Camera Image or Flip Camera Image toggles within the Configuration App.

12. Is it safe to pressure wash the camera?
Yes. The die-cast aluminum body and sealed circuitry achieve an IP69K rating, making the camera completely protected against high-pressure, high-temperature water and dust ingress.

13. How do I adjust the size and shape of the detection zones?
Detection zones are mapped and calibrated via the web-based Proxicam Configuration App. You must temporarily connect the USBCAL WiFi Dongle to generate the local network required to access this interface.

14. How many cameras can be connected to a single machine?
Up to four PXCAM-EVO cameras can be networked together on a single machine to provide total 360º perimeter detection coverage.

15. Does the camera record video internally?
No, the PXCAM-EVO camera does not contain internal storage for video recording. To capture and store 10-second event clips or continuous footage, the system must be paired with the Proxicam Data and Video Logger (DV-HUB).

16. How do I mirror or invert the camera image on the LCD monitor?
If the camera is being used at the rear of a machine, the image should be mirrored so that the view on the LCD matches the operators perceived view. eg. the left rear of the machine should appear on the left of the displayed image, not the right hand side. This is configured using the Proxicam Camera Configuration App in the Monitor Display Options menu.
